Much to our regret we must inform you that we have to change user groups and increase prices, from March 2, 2010. You find the new conditions below. For legal reasons we will not be able to offer downloads of PDF files to our German customers any more but only “E-mail attachment in PDF format” and “Hardcopy”. Deliveries abroad are currently not affected of this restriction. These considerable modifications of the ZI Document Delivery Service are owed to the currently valid joint treaty Gesamtvertrag "Kopiendirektversand" (PDF).

Short description

The library of the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte offers you the possibility of fee-based electronic ordering and delivering of essays or single chapters from journals and books which are held by the library.

After searching in the kubikat – Union catalogue of the Art Libraries Network Florence – Munich – Paris – Rome you can place an order from every title which is labelled with the button by clicking on it. When searching in the Union catalogue please note that only orders from holdings of the ZI are possible. 

The delivery normally takes place within two working days (Monday to Friday, except public holidays) in electronic form but also as paper copy sent by post. The processing time is the time between the entry of the order confirmation and when delivery begins. The delivery method (e.g. by post) is not included in the processing time.

The charges you have to pay depend on the size and method of the delivery as well as on your assignment to one of the three user groups.

Technical requirements

For using the document delivery service of the ZI you need a valid e-mail address and a computer with Internet access. If you choose the (recommended) electronic delivery in PDF format, make sure that you installed Adobe Reader software (version 4 or higher) which you can download here for free.

What can be ordered?

You can order (electronic) copies of articles of all periodicals and monographs (e.g. commemorative publications, congress papers) which are listed in the ZI OPAC. Further we also supply you with copies of single chapters of books (no loan of books!)

We reserve the right to carry out orders exceeding 50 pages.
If you should place more than five orders per day we also reserve the right to execute them over a period of time that may exceed two working days.

Charges for document delivery

Prices differ according to user groups, size and form of delivery. For exact prices please see the chart below.

How to order?

1. Select title

You order a (electronic) copy of the desired article or chapter directly after your search in the kubikat – Union catalogue of the Art Libraries Network Florence – Munich – Paris – Rome. Beside every title from which an order is possible you will find the button The following cases are imaginable:

• You find the title of a desired article within a periodical or a monograph: 
  After clicking on the order button a form opens which already contains all relevant bibliographical details from the catalogue. · 
  
• You find the title of a periodical or a compilation in which the desired article is published: 
  After clicking on the order button a form opens in which the bibliographical details of the periodical or compilation have been transferred. Now you add the rest of the necessary data, i.e. author and title of the article, the number of pages, the volume, the issue number and the year of publication of the periodical for us to know what to deliver. · 
  
• You find the title of a monograph from which you want to order a certain chapter: 
  After clicking on the order button a form opens in which the bibliographical details of the monograph have been transferred. Do not forget to add page numbers and possibly title and author of the chapter for us to know what to deliver.

It is important to enter the details on the article as precisely as possible, otherwise the delivery may be delayed unnecessarily.
 

2. Indicate intended use

The German Copyright and Related Rights Act (Gesetz über Urheberrecht und verwandte Schutzrechte) as amended on 1/1/2008 allows electronical document delivery only for documents used in the context of education and / or scientific research (§ 53a Delivery of copies on demand). Documents ordered for private use or other individual use can only be delivered as paper copies via mail delivery. Therefore please indicate the intended use. Depending on your choice you will be given one respectively twp different methods of delivery.

3. Choose delivery method

You can choose between the following delivery methods (depending on the selected intended use):

• E-mail attachment in PDF format 
  E-mail deliveries can be very big and there may be problems receiving them. Please make sure that your mailbox is able to accept a minimum of several MB mails. If this is not the case please select the delivery method "Post".
• Post 
  You get an out print of the scanned document via letter post.

Depending on the quality of the original we scan in bitonal or greyscales mode (16 or 256 grey scales) normally with a resolution of 300 dpi.

4. Enter billing address

Please fill in here your postal address and your e-mail address.
You can save these data on your computer for further orders at the ZI document delivery service by answering the question with "Yes". Basically you should click on "No" (predefined setting) when you are not the only user of the computer e.g. when you order from a publicly available computer to prevent any misuse of your data. 
The standard invoice is sent to you via e-mail. If you wish postal delivery, tick the applicable box.

5. Assign to user group (prices)

The prices include the royality fees to the VG WORT (see Gesamtvertrags "Kopiendirektversand").

For the assessment of the charges which are to pay the user assigns himself to one of four user groups:

User group 1
University and college staff (excepting students), employees of research institutes largely financed through public funds, employees of all legal entities under public law, cultural or social institutions and churches

User group 1a
Pupils, trainees, students

User grop 2
Private individuals

User group 3
Employees of commercial or industrial institutions, corporate libraries, self-employed people, and other commercial customers

6. Indicate mode of Internet access

To be able to calculate the sizes of files to be transferred via Internet download or e-mail attachment as favourable as possible for you, we would like you to indicate your Internet connection

• modem or ISDN
• DSL (broadband), university or corporate networks

If you choose Modem oder ISDN we will partition big files into several small ones and, if necessary, produce bitonal instead of greyscales scans in order to shorten the download time.

Having filled in the order form with the mandatory information you send your order by clicking on the button at the end of the page. If the attempt was successful you will directly get a confirmation message on your browser.

Attention: Immediately after your order has reached us you will receive an e-mail which contains a link to activate your order. Only when you click on the link in this e-mail or forward the mail to order@zikg.eu your order is valid and will be processed. For this you have 72 hours. This device prevents the misuse of your e-mail address by a third person. 
The delivery is normally made within two working days.

How to deal with the delivered electronic document?

If you selected "E-mail attachment" as delivery method you will get the delivery by e-mail attachment. To open and print the document use the Adobe (Acrobat) Reader (version 4 or higher) which has to be installed on your computer (see Technical requirements).

Please note that each copy is exclusively for your own use and not available for third parties. Each copy can be printed out only once and the file should finally deleted immediately after that.

Method of payment

Three or four weeks after the delivery you receive an invoice for the amount we charge for your order, either via e-mail or both e-mail and post, as you please.

We can offer only payment by bank transfer and cannot accept credit cards or cheques!

In those countries in which the euro is the official currency charges levied by a financial institution in respect of payment transactions to Germany shall be the same as the charges levied for national payments (Regulation (EC) No 2560/2001 (in Italian). Please note that the indication of our International Bank Account Number (IBAN) and the Bank Identifier Code (BIC), also known as SWIFT Code, is essential for cross-border credit transfers to avoid additional charges. Altogether the following data are required:

IBAN and BIC are obligatory for every transfer from outside Germany. Unfortunately banks in countries such as Switzerland partly levy extra charges which may be quite high, though have to be paid by the orderer, in addition to the total amount of the account. About the costs thereby incurred you are advised to inform yourself at the bank concerned before you execute the payment.
